What is breast milk jewelry?

Breastmilk jewelry is the art of creating a one-of-a-kind tangible keepsake from your breast milk and resin, making a piece that holds a sentimental value. The process involves using preservation and solidification techniques.

How do you turn breast milk into a stone?

Breast milk is an organic material that will spoil if you don’t preserve it properly. There are two main challenges when making breast milk jewelry: preserving the milk and turning it into a solid.

To do this, you add our preservation powder formula to your breast milk and let it dry. Then you hand-crush it into a powder. Finally, you mix this powder with liquid resin which hardens into a breast milk stone that can be set within a piece of jewelry.

How many pieces can I make with one kit?

You can only make one piece of jewelry. However, the kits come with enough material to create more than 12 breastmilk stones. Since there is one silver setting, you can attach only one of those breastmilk stones, however you have many opportunities to make other stones if you would like to try different designs.

How long will my jewel last?

Your breastmilk jewel is designed to last indefinitely.

Please, keep in mind this is a DIY project and it’s important you carefully follow the instructions as well as take care of your jewel once it’s finished. See our Jewelry Care page for more information.

What metal are the jewels made of?

Our jewels are made of 925 Sterling Silver, including the chains. You will find both the 925 and "Milky Treasures" marking on the back of the jewel.

Is there a chance my breastmilk stone will change color over time?

As with any precious jewelry, it is important to treat it with attention and care. To avoid future discoloration or yellowing of your jewel, remember to check our Jewelry Care page, with helpful tips for you to keep your breastmilk stone in great condition over the years.

Will my breastmilk color determine the stone color?

Every woman´s breastmilk is different in which the color of the piece will slightly vary. However, our preservation powder formula is designed to keep your breastmilk stone a white shade. This may vary on the amount of breastmilk powder you add to the resin. The more resin you add, the higher intensity of white the result while less resin will add a more cloud-like effect.

How much breastmilk do I need?

You only need 3ml or 0.6 Tsp of breastmilk.
Our kits include a syringe for you to measure the right amount.

Can I use frozen breastmilk? Even if it’s old?

Of course! Since that breastmilk will not be consumed, you can use either fresh or frozen milk, including breastmilk that has been frozen for years.

If your milk is moldy, it’s a no-go. But other than that, you’re safe! If frozen, you just need to take the milk out of the freezer to defrost before using.

Can I mix breastmilk from more than one baby in one piece?

Yes! You can mix the milk from more than one baby.

Do I need any special art skills to create my jewel?

Not at all! Our kits have been designed for anybody who has the patience to follow the instructions and try their best. Each breastmilk stone is unique, and its imperfections are part of the charm. Also, since you have more material than what you need, you can create many stones and learn what you like throughout the process!

Do the kits have an expiration date?

Yes. The resin and UV top coat have a shelf life of 1 year in an unopened container. If you have any doubts, contact us to find out the expiration date of your batch.

Can I add inclusions such as hair or cremation ashes?

You might be interested in adding a significant item to your breastmilk stone other than the actual breastmilk. Fortunately, resin allows us to work with several materials such as a lock of hair, dried flowers, fabric, or sand. Other materials such as dehydrated placenta powder, cremation ashes, or umbilical cord powder are also suitable. However, please keep in mind that these inclusions might affect the color of the breastmilk stone along with increase the risk of molding if the material hasn’t been dried properly.
